Fundraising for San Pietro  

An invitation!   Would you like to become an Honorary Member of Pianello? 

Our latest innovative idea to help raise funds for our renovation work is to invite people, like you, to take up official Membership of Quartiere Pianello in an Honorary capacity - even though you may live far away. 

You'll receive a numbered Membership Card, renewable annually, and a Certificate of Honorary Membership signed by our President. Your membership fee will be applied directly to our fundraising efforts for the sede and Church of San Pietro, and you'll be kept aware of progress.  As well, you'll be entitled to purchase an official Pianello scarf or banner - shown on Origins & Emblems - to display your fidelity to our Quartiere - but membership  requires your loyalty and pride in your Honorary Membership status.

Following renovations, the inauguration of our new Sede took place in August 2001. Our fresh and sparkling meeting rooms are fabulous, and as well as a larger kitchen and pantry, we also have renewed our bathroom facilities. But the greatest advantage is that we now have a splendid dining room in which to hold Sede Dinners and functions.

The renovations were largely paid for by Quartiere Pianello and through donations from our Members, but the Bank of Monte Paschi di Siena, once again, donated generously to assist with this historical work.

 

The Church of San Pietro:

Meanwhile, the Church of San Pietro has been thoroughly cleaned and brought back to working order, and we have received various reports on work which needs to be done.   During the work on the Sede the builders discovered an ancient well – still containing water – below the foundations of San Pietro  which, over long centuries, has contributed dramatically to the rising damp in the church foundations and walls. The cost of renovation and maintenance for San Pietro continues to rise.

I've received many requests as to how you can contribute to the fundraising for the work to be done to restore the ancient Church of San Pietro. If you would like to contribute to the restoration work we invite you to take up our offer, set out above, of Honorary Membership of Quartiere Pianello - that way you become part of something very special in Montalcino, and you are helping with the restoration of San Pietro as well!

SAGRA UPDATE:   November 2002

The Sagra del Tordo is over for another year!  Sadly, we did not win, although our archers Massimo and Gaetano performed well for Pianello, in the end it all comes down to 20 arrows!  And Pianello paid the penalty for several wayward arrows! Ruga won! Celebrations are continuing in their Quartiere!

 

Winter is setting in and the hours of daylight are short, it is cold, frequently windy, with the promise of early snow. In Pianello we are still regrouping after the Sagra, and happily, due to a sunny, mild and successful day, rendered it financially one of the most profitable for some years. As well, readers from various places around the world have been generous in sending donations - even modest ones - to assist our ongoing restoration work. Planning for our winter program is under way and Pianello  members  look forward to activities in our sede in  front of the wood fire.
